Row1.   Chain 6 and join to form a circle.

Row2    Chain 2 and use as first dc, dc another 11 dc’s in circle. Sc in top of the chain 2 (as the     first dc)

Row3    Chain 2 , 23dc’s in next round total 24dc’s, sc in first chain 2.

Evie's Free Knit Hat Pattern

Needles Needed:   Size  5/6 in 16 inch -    Size 8/10 in 16 inch -  One pair of    DP in size 8/10

Amount of yarn is approx. 125 yards, or less.

Cast on 60/64 Sts. with smaller  circular needle.

This works best if you knit the Sts. on as a cast on.

Now you will join to make a circle, making sure that all the Sts. are straight before you join.

K1, P1, as in ribbing, for several rows, depending on how wide you want you band of you hat.

Usually its 1 inch or more,  your choice.

After your band is complete you now change to larger needle and knit every row until it fits about where you want the hat to fit. This is somewhere around 6/8 inches from start of hat.  This also depends on how you want it to fit, so try it on.

Place a marker at start of this area. Now you will start decreasing, Called crown.

Row 1)    Knit 6, K2tog.  repeat around

Row 2)    Knit

Row 3)    Knit 5, K2tog  repeat around

Row 4)    Knit

Row 5)    Knit4, K2tog repeat around

Row 6)    Knit

Row 7)    Knit3, K2tog repeat around

Row 8)    Knit

Row 9)    Knit 2tog around x two ( repeat this row twice)

Thread yarn thru and tie.

This is a basic hat that will fit any adult with most yarns.

If you are a tight knitter use larger size needles and more Sts.

Or if you like the hat larger use the larger size needle and increase Sts.

Be careful not to add to much as this will be a loose fitting hat very quickly.

This is a snug fitting hat called a head hugger style.

Note:   There are many variations that you can due for this hat:

Cats on 96Sts. with size 6 needle /16 inch    knit 3 p1  around . Continue until

hat measures 7 inches from beginning  Try on for fit. if ok . Due crown as above

Have fun.................Evie

Knit one row.
